6th November 2012 - Lecture on Selected topics in Sociolinguistics

Later during the day we had a second lecture on Linguistics by Professor Masakazu IINO. This class was along with the Waseda University students. We got an opportunity to examine sociolinguistics issues. The topics covered in class included  the macro sociolinguistic studies to present various issues in language policy and language planning from around the world. Here a group of students from the class gave some presentations. Topics covered in the class included language and ethnicity/immigration, language and class, language and identity, language and conflicts, language and politics, multilingualism and education, language change and standardization, and so on. We mainly focussed on the development of standard languages in the construction of national communities and identities, bilingualism and multilingualism, language attitudes in nationalism and globalization, language rights and endangered languages. We all enjoyed the sessions and discussions  and learnt a lot from the lecture.

  1. Dear Rachel Amaral,
Thank you very much. It is nice to see Mr. Dange and Dr. Sawant attending and listening to the teacher carefully. I am sorry I could not identify others.
