8th November 2012- Another interesting day in Tokyo!!!!

yipeeeeee!!!!! Another pleasant day in Tokyo!!Our day began with a delicious breakfast. We arrived at the Waseda University at 9:50am followed by a lecture on the theme 'Great East Japan Earthquake' by Professor Hiroyuki Yamaguchi at 10:00am.All of us were very eager to know about the earthquake that killed so many lives. Before the lecture began, Dr.Sawant introduced  the basic concept of an earthquake that gave us an idea about the cause of earthquakes.

Later, Professor Hiroyuki Yamaguchi  spoke about the East Japan earthquake, the largest one being the 3.11 Tsunami that occured on 11th March 2011 at 14:46 am that completely destroyed many lives. He told us about the help provided to the victims by various organizations including the students of the Waseda University.Volunteers from the Waseda University were sent to the site to collect the photographs filled with the memories of the victims, that were lost in the disaster and were cleaned and given to the victims to keep their memories alive. He spoke about the activities involved in aiding the victims like supplying food, removing mud, sports coaching, music etc...The Waseda University students had to attend an orientation programme before being sent to the site.Professor Hiroyuki himself being involved in the aiding policy told us about the contributions done by the Japanese Government such as self defence forces, debris disposal, temporary housing etc...The lecture was very informative and we got to know the role played by the Government as well as the citizens of Japan to protect their own country people. He also explained to us the radiation contamination caused by the earthquake in Fukushima and the problems faced by the people there due to the radiations.

After the lecture ended, we met Mr.Asakura who is presently the coach of the Waseda University 'American football' team. The interaction with him was very interesting and sporty. He gave us an introduction about the 2010 Championship that was won by the Waseda University in the year 2010.We played the game 'stone paper scissors' in which Saurabhi Budkule won the first prize which was the Waseda University T-shirt and a folder. Many  other prizes were won by the rest of the students.Later, we headed for lunch at the Waseda cafeteria and grabbed some yummy Japanese food.

At 13:30 pm we had a meeting with Mr.James Messerly(ICC) regarding the preparation for the Indian cultural night. The meeting ended at 5.30pm followed by the dance practice.
The discussions involved the following points:
- requirements for each performance
-seating arrangement of the audience
-decorations
-serving of snacks etc...

We were very thankful to Mr.James Messerly who allowed us to practice our dances in the program hall.We all were pleased to know about the aiding facilities provided to the victims of the earthquake.so also the well organized and systematic behavior of the people fascinated us. It was indeed a fun filled day.
